Generally, throat pain cures within a day or week. However, if it doesn’t and there are additional symptoms, get a consultation with the doctor immediately-
- Severe, prolonged throat pain that stretches into the ear
- Difficulty swallowing, breathing or even opening the mouth
- Coughing blood or have blood in the saliva
- Running a high fever
- White patches on the back of the throat or a rash
- Enlargement of lymph nodes
- Unable to speak for one or two weeks
